Permit Tech/Admin Assistant

Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience working with the public in a customer service role and knowledge of ICC Building Codes and/or land use regulations; and experience working Microsoft Office Suite and other programs is preferred.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required or completion of a vocational course in one or more building trades, this position requires an ICC certification as a Permit Technician or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months.

License or Certificate: This position requires an ICC certification as a Permit Technician or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months.

Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn general knowledge of codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations pertaining to zoning, building, and right of way.
  • Respond to questions from the public, city personnel, and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn a variety of permitting.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn Municipal code violations and the process associated with resolving/addressing the violation.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn and understand engineering and architecture drawings regarding building and design elements as well as site plans.
  • Ability to operate point of sale and credit card machines.
  • Mathematical skills required to accurately calculate fees.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to perform general office duties, including responding to the public via telephone, email, or in person; drafting correspondence and reports; tracking, filing and retaining documents, scanning documents, etc.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn the operation of computer software, to include MS Office Suite, and software used in the Planning and Zoning and Building Inspections

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
